I’ve spent the last three days at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live 2 in Kansas City going face-to-face with the likes of Iain McCaig, Justin Sweet, and Vance Kovacs. Got a lot of positive feedback on my work, and learned a ton just watching these guys do their thing. Truly priceless.

I’ve been wanting to attempt a portrait in watercolor for some time now, and after seeing Justin’s watercolor skills in person I was inspired to give it a go. Here is a little 9x12 study of our Founding Father George Washington, after Gilbert Stuart 1795.

Plein air during the awesome weather today in Kansas City. I’ve really got to get a stool. I am at war with the ants, and my only weapon is the alcohol-filled atomizer I carry with me for painting.10x14 watercolor on paper.

The first depicts the healing of the paralyzed man lowered through the roof at Capernaum (Matthew 9). The second is based on the account of the resurrection of Lazarus of Bethany found in John 11.
